Scott is an intellectual property and corporate attorney representing innovative and creative-based businesses. His experience includes representing clients in both private practice and as in-house intellectual property counsel at a Fortune 100 company. Scott provides general counsel service to several of his creative clients and focuses his practice on corporate structure and strategy, trademark and copyright registration and infringement, and all types of web-based and other service agreements.
Scott grew up in a creative and entrepreneurial family and worked in both his grandparent’s chain of music instrument stores and his dad’s drum store. Following his interest in music, he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and majored in music business/management before earning his law degree at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. In addition to his education and work experience, he has completed several U.S. music tours and continues to be active in the Columbus music scene by gigging and serving on the Board of Directors of the Dick & Jane Project, a non-profit that empowers students through songwriting.
In addition to his corporate practice, Scott is highly experienced in all manners of trademark law including clearance of proposed marks, prosecution of marks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and enforcement of trademark infringement claims. While in-house counsel at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, he was responsible for the company’s large trademark portfolio and as outside counsel has obtained registrations for and advised a variety of clients including celebrity athletes, restaurants and bars, marketing agencies, authors, musicians, and even a scientific methodology firm. He is also highly knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of copyright law including registrations and infringements.
While Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and a pragmatic approach to advising his clients, it is the creativity and drive of his clients that inspires him. He says:
